Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about groups, packages, messages and using Nachbarius on your phone.

Email delivery

What can I do if an email does not arrive?

First check the spam or junk folder and search for noreply@nachbarius.de. Mark a message as “Not spam” and, if necessary, add the sender to your safe senders or contacts. Under Settings, check that the relevant notification is enabled and that your email address is correct. Business or strictly filtered mailboxes may reject automated messages; their mailbox administrator can allow nachbarius.de or noreply@nachbarius.de.

About the name

What does the name Nachbarius mean?

The name is a playful invented word: Nachbarius — according to the imaginary Roman Empire, a proven friend from the immediate neighbourhood.

Use Nachbarius like an app

iPhone and iPad

Add to the Home Screen

  1. Open nachbarius.de in Safari.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Select Add to Home Screen. If it is missing, add it under Edit Actions.
  4. Enable Open as Web App and tap Add.
Android

Install on the Home screen

  1. Open nachbarius.de in Chrome.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu.
  3. Select Add to Home screen, then Install.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Depending on the device or Chrome version, the option may be called “Install app”.

Do I need an app store?

No. Nachbarius is a web app and works in the browser. The Home Screen icon provides app-like access.

Why do I still see the old icon?

Your phone may cache it. Remove only the Home Screen shortcut and add Nachbarius again. This does not delete your account or data.

How do I enable push notifications?

Open Settings → Push notifications, select Enable push notifications, and allow the system prompt. On iPhone and iPad this works only after Nachbarius has been added to the Home Screen and opened from there. Availability on Android and desktop depends on the browser.

Why does the permission prompt no longer appear?

If permission was denied, the website cannot ask again automatically. Allow Nachbarius in the device or browser notification settings, then return to Settings.

Do I enable push separately on each device?

Yes. Each phone, tablet and computer has its own subscription. Push can be enabled or disabled for the current device without changing email notifications.

What does the number on the app icon mean?

It counts new push notifications since the package overview was last opened. Opening the overview clears it. Display also depends on the device, browser and launcher.

Getting started

How do I join a group?

Open the invitation link or scan the QR code, then sign in or create an account. An invitation is valid for 30 days and can be revoked earlier.

Can I use Nachbarius without a group?

You can create an account, but reporting and assigning packages requires a group with another suitable recipient.

Why is a name missing under “New package”?

Your own names, including additional household names, are hidden because you cannot hand a package to yourself. The same first-name and last-name combination is shown only once per group.

What are additional names for?

Add partners, children or other household members. Packages for these names can then be assigned to your account.

Packages, overview and chat

How do I report a package?

Select New package, then choose the group and recipient. Pickup time and note are optional. The process appears in the correct collection area for both neighbours.

Who receives an email?

Accounts linked to the selected recipient name receive a message if package notifications are enabled. Optional pickup times and notes are included.

What is the chat for?

Each chat belongs to one package process and helps the neighbours arrange collection. Email alerts for new chat messages can be changed under Settings.

What happens when I select “Collected”?

The process is completed and leaves the current overview. The person who completed it can restore it under Settings for up to 24 hours.

Does the overview update automatically?

Yes. It regularly checks for package and chat changes. If you are entering text, it shows an update notice instead of discarding your input.

Groups and invitations

Who can invite neighbours?

All group members can create a private invitation link or QR code and optionally send it by email. PDF posters and member management are reserved for group administrators.

What can a group administrator do?

The group creator automatically becomes an administrator. Administrators can rename or delete the group, manage members and administrators, and create invitations and posters.

Why can someone not join?

A primary account and a first-name/last-name combination cannot occur twice in the same group. This keeps recipients unambiguous.

What happens when a group is deleted?

The interface warns that related content is affected and asks for two confirmations. Delete a group only when it is no longer required.

Account, notifications and privacy

Where do I change my account settings?

Under Settings you can manage your profile, additional names, language, password and email alerts for packages, reminders and chats.

Can I reply to Nachbarius emails?

No. They are automated, no-reply messages. Use the package chat to coordinate with your neighbour.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Request account deletion under Settings. The page explains deactivation and deletion; further details are in the privacy policy.

Who can see my groups and messages?

Groups are not public. Package details and chats are provided to the accounts involved. Group administrators manage membership, and technical system administration may access necessary data to resolve specific issues. The current privacy policy and terms apply.
